Why do we take photographs?
To help our memory, capture the moment, to tell stories, our stories. We take pictures to stop the time and remain young. To be reminded of the places we visited. We take photographs because we want to transcend and live the best moments forever. But what matters is not what kind of camera we use to take a photograph, it is the passion and creativity that we put into shooting what counts. It's not the camera, it's the photographer.
San Martín Gallery, an icon of Mendoza, was declared a provincial landmark in 1997. This gallery marked a milestone in terms of construction, since until then, most buildings such as private homes and public buildings had only been made with the building system "against earthquakes.
The owner wanted to develop a building style that had emerged in Europe at the beginning of the 19th century, the commercial gallery with glazed roof. The designers took as background emblematic works such as the Burlington Arcade in London (1819) and the Vittorio Emmanuele II Gallery in Milan, designed in 1861, the same year Mendoza was struck by an earthquake. Buenos Aires also had two similar galleries: the Pasaje Güemes and the Galerías Pacífico.
Mendoza's oldest market, Mercado Central (Central Market), dates back to 1884. This historic building is situated on Las Heras Avenue. Here one can find all sorts of groceries including fruits, spices, vegetables, cheeses and meats alongside handicrafts such as Inca woven goods and traditional ponchos. Small shops also offer tables where you can sit down and listen to live music while enjoying empanadas, pizza or sandwiches.
Independencia Park is considered the geographical center of Mendoza. It occupies four hectares right in the middle of the city. It has a large diversity of trees, fountains and fresh patches of grass, it represents an oasis in the middle of the city. At the heart of the park there is a fountain designed by Eliana Molinelli in commemoration of Argentine Independence.
